Federal Member for Forde, Bert van Manen MP is calling for locals to nominate people and organisations who support and strengthen their community through volunteer efforts for the Australian Governments National Volunteer Awards.
Mr van Manen said he plans to recognise the selfless work of 10 local people at a ceremony on the 3rd December 2012 to coincide with International Volunteer Day on the 5th December 2012.
“Volunteering connects people, strengthens our sense of belonging and builds positive relationships that create more resilient communities,” he said.
“We have a fantastic community spirit here in Forde and this is a perfect opportunity to give National recognition to the local people here who make a difference.”

1. MP’s Volunteer of the Year Award
2. Junior Volunteer Award (17 and under)
3. Youth Volunteer Award (18-25)
4. Senior Volunteer Award (65 and over)
5. Business Volunteer Award
6. Education Award
7. Emergency Management Volunteer Award
8. Environment Award
9. Innovation in Volunteering Award (organisation or individual)
Each award winner will receive a certificate signed by the Prime Minister, the Minister for Social Inclusion and Bert van Manen MP, Federal Member for Forde.
Over six million Australians generously contribute their time, energy and expertise to volunteering each year, giving more than 730 million hours of work with a value estimated at almost $16 billion annually.
