Federal Member for Forde Bert van Manen MP was joined by Minister for the Environment, the Hon Greg Hunt MP to announce a re-elected Turnbull Government will deliver a major funding boost for the Beenleigh and District Senior Citizens Centre.
Mr van Manen said the Beenleigh and District Senior Citizens Centre took pride in being one of the best facilities in Queensland for over 50s, and he was very pleased to support them with $90,000 from the Turnbull Coalition Government.
“Beenleigh and District Senior Citizens Centre celebrates the diversity of older people in our region each and every day,” Mr van Manen said.
“They aim to promote the well-being and needs of all the aged and we will be able to support their cause with $90,000 for an extensive upgrade of their kitchen and laundry facilities.”
Mr van Manen said the hardworking staff and volunteers did a tremendous job promoting a positive image of ageing to all their clients and visitors.
“They provide a sense of belonging, purpose and support for seniors in our community and what they contribute is invaluable,” Mr van Manen said.
“The new kitchen will help them continue their Meals on Wheels and respite programs for the aged, as well as the younger disabled and their carers.”
Beenleigh and District Senior Citizens Centre’s Secretary of the Management Committee Val Parison said the $90,000 funding would go to good use.
“This is a much needed upgrade which will help the centre to move into the future,” Ms Parison said.
“It will help us as we continue to serve seniors and the disabled in the community of Beenleigh and surrounding suburbs and I thank Bert van Manen for his generous support.”
Minister Hunt said Australia had an ageing population, with many people living longer and retiring earlier.
“Centres like Beenleigh and District Senior Citizens play an important role in the community, with a number of healthy active older people who want to contribute to community life, while retaining their independence and respect,” Mr Hunt said.
“The Turnbull led Coalition Government is proud to support centres like Beenleigh and District Senior Citizens as they promote healthy, active lifestyles for our seniors.”
