ONE of Forde’s most vital sporting and community facilities is overdue an upgrade.
The Hammel Park precinct is central to the region’s sporting community.
The multipurpose hub located in Beenleigh is home to baseball, junior rugby league and netball.
With club membership numbers growing across all three sporting codes, the facilities need to reflect that growth.
Member for Forde, Bert van Manen MP, has secured funding for each club over the years, but plans to do more.
Mr van Manen has announced today that a Peter Dutton led LNP Government will provide $3.55 million to complete upgrade works at Hammel Park that will directly benefit Beenleigh Netball Association, Beenleigh Hawks Baseball Club, Beenleigh Junior Rugby League and the local community as a whole.
“These sporting clubs have such a profound impact on the wider community,” he said.
“So many kids, adults, families benefit from being part of these clubs, and I hope, will benefit from better facilities.
“It’s my pleasure to continue to support these clubs and I look forward to working in partnership with them, and Logan City Council, to see these works finished,” Mr van Manen said.
A newly constructed netball clubhouse would be developed in place of their existing space.
The baseball structure would remain in the same location; however, a new facility would be constructed, including an indoor batting cage building.
Beenleigh Netball Association president Maree Robbins said it was great to have the LNP’s backing.
“Our building here is over 40 years old,” she said.
“It doesn’t provide for showers, it doesn’t provide our players with amenities and quite frankly we need an upgrade to provide all the modern facilities that the players and officials need.
“I want to thank Bert and really thank him for backing up Beenleigh Netball.”
