Twin Rivers Community Care have been awarded $10,450 through Round 1 of the Australian Government’s Stronger Communities Programme.
Federal Member for Forde, Bert van Manen MP, said the funding would go towards air conditioning at the Twin Rivers Food Co-operative centre.
“Twin Rivers offers fresh food and other grocery items at affordable prices which provides a tremendous service to people in the community who are on very tight budgets,” Mr van Manen said.
“It is about treating people with the dignity and respect they deserve, and offering them a hand up, rather than a hand out.”
Mr van Manen said the Food Co-operative at Eagleby can get quite hot on summer days, with customers and team members shopping and working in uncomfortable conditions.
“This Stronger Communities grant will go towards installing some much needed air conditioners for the Twin Rivers Food Co-op,” Mr van Manen said.
“Those who shop in supermarkets enjoy a comfortable, air conditioned environment, so those coming to Twin Rivers should be afforded the same opportunity.”
Mr van Manen said the Australian Government was providing $45 million over two years through the Stronger Communities Programme to fund small capital projects in local communities.
“This programme will deliver $150,000 per year for two years to my electorate of Forde,” Mr van Manen said.
“Projects awarded funding must deliver social benefits to the community and contribute to our community’s long term vibrancy and viability.”
