Locals who have recently received notice of postponement for elective surgery should contact Bert for representation to the Federal Health Minister Tanya Plibersek MP.
“In these representations I’ll be asking the Minister why $19 million was taken out of the federal budget for Metro South Health.”
“I’ll be requesting that the Minister reinstate these funds as soon as possible to assist with the costs associated with reducing the waiting time for elective surgeries.”
Mr van Manen said it’s important for those affected to contact his office to ensure their voices are heard.
“We need to work together to find a solution to the recent waiting time extensions because this is affecting a lot of people’s lives.”
“It’s not just the patients who are affected by these long waiting lists.
“Families members, friends and employers can also be affected.”
“There is also a lot of stress placed upon our health workers who have to be the messenger in all of this.”
Bert has made contact with the Shadow Health Minister Peter Dutton and will also communicate with the State Health Minister Lawrence Springborg MP to keep him informed of any representations.
Patients are urged to contact Bert at his office in Beenleigh on 07 3807 6340 or by email bert.vanmanen.mp@aph.gov.au or visiting the office sat 4/96 George Street Beenleigh.
