RIGHT now, Australians are doing it tough. We can’t afford to keep heading down the current path.
On Saturday, May 3, the election is about who can help workers and families to get ahead by managing the Australian economy better.
Anthony Albanese’s economic policies and wasteful spending have made the cost-of-living much worse.
Under Labor, Australians are now paying on average 18% more for rent, 30% more for groceries, and over 30% more for power and gas.
Labor has lost control of the economy, with its Budget showing at least ten years of deficits.
And tragically, for too many young Australians, the dream of owning your own home is slipping away.
Last Thursday night, Peter Dutton committed to introducing four pieces of legislation on the first sitting day of the next Parliament if the LNP is elected:
1. The Energy Price Reduction Bill.
2. The Lower Immigration and More Homes for Australians Bill.
3. The Keeping Australians Safe Bill.
4. The Guaranteed Funding for Health, Education and Essential Services Bill.
Under Labor, Australians have experienced the longest household recession – and the worst collapse in living standards – on record.
To provide immediate cost of living relief, we will halve the fuel excise for 12 months.
For a household with two cars filling-up once a week, that’s a saving of around $1,500 over 12 months.
Of course, to get out of Labor’s economic mess we need hard decisions and a proper plan.
That’s why a Coalition Government will:
-
Rein-in inflationary spending.
-
Reduce the cost of energy.
-
Strengthen the economy to work for you.
While making responsible savings, we will guarantee investments in essential services like health, aged-care, and defence.
As part of our plan to reduce the cost of energy with a balanced energy mix, Peter Dutton announced our National Gas Plan.
This will prioritise domestic gas supply, address shortfalls, and reduce energy prices for Australians.
We also announced the Coalition will set a target of 400,000 apprentices and trainees in training across Australia, including restoring targeted and proven incentive payments for small and medium businesses to hire and train an apprentice.
To further strengthen the economy, we will: remove regulatory burdens; curtail union militancy (including deregistering the CFMEU); and deliver tax relief for small business, including increasing the instant asset write-off to $30,000.
The Budget Reply speech also outlined our plans to: restore the dream of home ownership; invest in better health and mental health; tackle crime; boost defence; and improve the education curriculum.
In the coming days and weeks, the LNP will continue to outline key elements of our plan to strengthen our economy, so Australians can get ahead.
Australians can’t afford three more years of Labor. We must do better. We’re determined that we will do better.
Together, let’s get our country back on track.
