SES & Bert van Manen MP Trial New Rescue Boat
Thursday, 13 February, Federal Member for Forde, Bert van Manen MP, visited Waterford West flooding with local police and SES.
The Federal Member was fortunate to help the SES trial a new style of rescue boat which is capable of driving over land.
Bert went along for the ride as they collected residents from Schmidt Road to stock up on groceries and run errands.
From discussions with SES controller Jim Ferguson, the boat will prove extremely useful if Emergency Management Queensland make the decision to purchase.
It is the hope of SES that the boat will be deployed to aid the clean up in Ipswich.
Bert urged residents to avoid sightseeing in flood affected areas and allow the SES and locals to carry out their jobs.
