Beenleigh Buffaloes AFL Club will be better supported to launch a senior women’s team next season thanks to a Turnbull Government Stronger Communities grant.
Federal Member for Forde Bert van Manen MP visited the club to congratulate them on receiving a $5745 grant under Round 2 of the program.
“Beenleigh Buffaloes just finished off a fantastic 2016 season and the club is growing from strength to strength as they continue preparing for 2017,” Mr van Manen said.
“I am very pleased to be able to support the local AFL club with a Stronger Communities grant as they prepare to step up into a higher division, and add a new senior women’s team to the 2017 season.”
Mr van Manen said the funding will be used to purchase new equipment for the club.
“A new team means new footballs, new jerseys, training equipment and more,” Mr van Manen said.
“This Stronger Communities Grant will help the Buffaloes expand their teams and give them a good chance of securing another premiership in the 2017 footy season.”
The Stronger Communities grant is part of the Coalition Government’s $45 million Stronger Communities Programme.
The programme has delivered $150,000 per year over the past two years to Forde (2015-2016).
“Projects awarded funding must deliver social benefits to the community and contribute to our community’s long term vibrancy and viability,” Mr van Manen said.
