National Volunteer Week runs from 21 to 27 May and honours the more than eight million Australians who volunteer their time in the community.
Federal Member for Forde Bert van Manen MP said there were more than 18,000 volunteers in his electorate of Forde, and he wanted to thank each and every one of them for their enormous contribution to the community.
“Volunteers are the lifeblood and heart and soul of our local communities,” Mr van Manen said.
“They give their time and energy to help others and make my electorate of Forde a great place to live.
“We can never thank our volunteers enough, and National Volunteer Week is a special opportunity to shine a light on the volunteers who go above and beyond to help others.”
Mr van Manen said the Turnbull Government was providing more than $64 million over four years to support volunteers.
“By helping each other and working together, we are building stronger and safer communities.”
