Local Tree Now Protected

 

Federal Member for Forde Bert Van Manen MP is proud to announce the inclusion of the threatened Ormeau Bottle Tree (Brachychiton) under the Federal Environment Protection and Biodiversity Act 1999

 

Mr van Manen said members of the Ormeau community have been fighting long and hard to save the endangered Ormeau Bottle Tree from extinction.

 

“I’m pleased the Federal Government has recognised the importance of the protection of this species to the Ormeau community”.

 

“Only 140 of these trees remain, and I’ve supported the community’s efforts to ensure that these beautiful trees are protected for future generations.”

 

The Ormeau Bottle Tree faces significant threats from proposed quarrying developments, invasive weeds and loss of habitat.

 

Mr. Van Manen looks forward to continuing to work with all levels of government and the local community to protect the Ormeau Bottle Tree.
