Over two days Selena attended a committee meeting, visited Question Time, and met Deputy Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Julie Bishop and Shadow Treasurer the Hon. Joe Hockey.
The Federal Member for Forde, Bert van Manen said he enjoyed sharing his busy schedule with Selena during her visit which was proudly sponsored by Virgin Australia, the Kurrajong Hotel and the Logan Community Bank.
“One of the reasons Selena came to visit Parliament House was so she could be present in the Federation Chamber when I read her wining essay out in front of my colleagues.”
“The Former Speaker of the House, the Hon. Harry Jenkins was in the chamber at the time and acknowledged Selena for her essay.”
Bert said in addition to meeting Julie Bishop and Joe Hockey, Selena had been introduced to a number of other Federal Member’s from both sides of politics.
“Selena did a great job representing the young people in Forde during her visit to Parliament House.”
“My colleagues from Canberra were very interested in meeting Selena and finding out more about what she had to say in her winning essay.”
Bert said the visit appeared to have sparked Selena’s interest for a career in politics.
“You could tell that the visit had definitely inspired Selena to become more involved in politics.”
