A local venture in social enterprise helping the long term unemployed, disabled and youth at risk impressed the Federal Minister for Social Services during a visit to Beenleigh last week.
Forde MP, Bert van Manen MP invited the Minister, The. Hon Kevin Andrews MP to Eagleby on official business last Wednesday to host public forums but it was a meeting with Certified Mowing in Beenleigh which became the highlight of day.
“It’s a wonderful operation, something which I’d like to see elsewhere around the country,” said Minister Andrews.
The Minister praised the efforts of the owner, Lachlan Howland for exercising social enterprise in providing real employment opportunities for people living in hardship through his commercial mowing business.
Eighty per cent of Lachlan’s staff consists of people with mild disabilities, youth at risk and people who had previously been long-term unemployed who prove themselves as reliable, honest and dedicated workers.
“It’s humbling to see the work that Lachlan and the others have put into making this venture a real success,” said Minister Andrews.
“It is great to see a group of young people who are highly motivated and obviously committed to their work,” he said.
Bert van Manen said Lachlan was an inspiration and hoped that other business owners would consider following in his footsteps.
“It means a lot to have the Federal Minister say he would like to see more operations like these around the country.”
“Certified Mowing are leading the way in social enterprise and this is a great achievement not only for them but also for our community.”
“I’d like to see more local business owners embrace the people in our community who are struggling in one way or another who want to contribute to the workforce.”
