People with disability will be able to receive more support in their search for a job with the Turnbull Government increasing funding to new and existing Disability Employment Service (DES) providers from July 1, 2018.
Federal Member for Forde Bert van Manen MP said DES providers in Forde helped connect people with disability to the right job for them, and also supported local businesses and organisations to find talented candidates.
“People with disability in our community will now have more choice of provider and more say in the support they receive thanks to an investment of more than $3 billion in DES over the next four years,” Mr van Manen said.
“Having a job not only provides security and independence, it also expands our social networks, gives us a sense of responsibility and self-worth and enables us to contribute more fully to society.”
Mr van Manen said with the increased funding, there would be 21 new and existing DES providers in his electorate of Forde.
More than 13 per cent of people who are of working age have a disability, however only 53 per cent are participating in the workforce, compared to 83 per cent of people without disability.
