Forde has secured $1.6 million in funding under round two of the Australian Government’s Bridges Renewal Programme to support vital upgrades of local bridge infrastructure.
Federal Member for Forde, Bert van Manen MP said the bridge at Chardon Bridge Road, Cedar Creek had been identified as in important project for funding.
“Local bridges are important in ensuring communities and local businesses have easy access to essential services, traffic movement and the efficient transportation of road freight,” Mr van Manen said.
“Chardon Bridge Road connects parts of our rural and semi-rural communities to main roads and towns and is located next to a primary school.”
Mr van Manen said the Bridges Renewal Programme was designed to bolster the productivity of Australia’s local bridges and give councils the support they need to better serve communities.
“Chardon Bridge Road was identified as a priority by the City of Gold Coast, and the works will be managed by local government,” Mr van Manen said.
“The total project will cost $3.2 million and involve replacing the one lane timber bridge with a two lane concrete bridge.”
