It was a day of fun, food and flair as more than 400 seniors converged on Canterbury College today for the eighth annual Forde Seniors’ Expo.
Federal Member for Forde and event host Bert van Manen said the 2017 event was the best yet.
“What another fantastic display of the talent and goodwill that exists in our community,” Mr van Manen said.
“The annual Forde Seniors Expo is a great opportunity for older Australians in our local community to learn more about the services, products and assistance available to them.
“It is also my opportunity to speak with our seniors face to face, to hear their questions and concerns and to thank them all for the wonderful contribution they make to our society and our region.”
The special guest at this year’s event was Donald James Waters OAM, who entertained the crowd with a live painting demonstration.
“Mr Waters is a very talented artist and a great friend of mine,” Mr van Manen said.
“It was a pleasure to have him be a key part of this year’s expo – our attendees thoroughly enjoyed his contribution.”
Mr van Manen said energy policy was high on the agenda at this year’s expo, taking several questions from attendees on the topic.
“The Government is committed to lowering power prices for Australian residents, including our seniors,” Mr van Manen said.
“I was glad to have the opportunity today to discuss the concerns local residents have regarding energy policy, and to get feedback from moving forward.”
