WELL, that’s a wrap on Parliamentary sitting weeks in 2024.
And what a week of chaos it was.
The Government has failed to get any runs on the board this year, so what did they do, try cram as much in at the tail end as they can.
The Australian public will look back on 2024 and ask; are my groceries cheaper? Is my electricity cheaper? is housing cheaper? The answer to all, will most certainly be N. O.
Michael Gurney from Cedar Creek in Forde reached out to me through last week.
Michael’s household electricity bill has skyrocketed, and rightly, he wants explanations.
Seventy-five per cent his bill has shot up. Seventy-five per cent! That’s unprecedented.
How does the Government want to spin its way out of that one.
Iconic Aussie business, Seeley International, located in Loganholme, told the Senate’s Select Committee into Labor’s Cost of Living Crisis that their electricity prices had increased by almost 60 per cent this year.
Managing Director, Jon Seeley said, and I quote, “Government energy policy has driven huge price increases for consumers and businesses like ours”.
The people of Forde are paying the price for Labor’s reckless economic and energy policies.
They’ve done nothing proactive to address the pain Australians are feeling when they go to the checkout and pay their bills.
Under Labor, the underlying electricity price has gone up 31 per cent. The government has done nothing to address the underlying issues in our energy market – it needs to get back to basics.
We’re projected to return to Parliament next February.
Whether we return to Canberra then, or head straight into an Election, as the Member for Forde, I’ll continue to hold this Government to account.
As people sit around the Christmas table, they’ll need to ask themselves a serious question: Are we better off now, then we were three years ago?
