IF YOU build it, they will come.
I’m paraphrasing a cheesy line from an 80’s movie, but that’s exactly what we’ve managed to do with the annual Forde Seniors Expo.
For well over a decade my office and I have put an immense amount of time and effort into building an event that caters to our local seniors.
In 2024, we might have pulled off the biggest and best yet.
We haven’t got concrete attendee figures, but firm estimations put it between 900 and a 1000 through the doors of Canterbury College on Friday, September 27.
Over the course of the four-hour event, streams of people waded their way through the doors, collected their goodie bags and were entertained, educated and enlightened.
We were lucky to have the support of close to 70 exhibitors on the day, as well as music from Steve Walker and the delightful company of Senator, the Hon. Anne Ruston, Shadow Minister for Health and Aged Care.
It was a pleasure to have Senator Ruston on hand for a Q&A session, where I’m hopeful people were able to walk away more informed.
I want to sincerely thank Nightlight for their well-run BBQ, Rotary Club of Beenleigh for ensuring tea and scones satiated the masses and Beenleigh’s Wil Soon Espresso for keeping the coffee’s flowing.
A big, big thank you as well to all our sponsors. Much like our Forde Family Expo earlier this year, without you, it’d be impossible to pull off.
It was a genuine pleasure to get around on the day and chat to as many people as I could.
I’m confident that we offer a great opportunity for older Australians in our community to learn more about the services, products and assistance available to them.
Our local seniors are invaluable in our community. Our towns and communities can only thrive with their input and contributions.
Thank you to everyone who came along to our event and I’m excited to see how we can continue to grow it even more in 2025.
