BERT TO BUILD BEENLEIGH
Liberal National Party member for Forde, Bert van Manen MP, today committed $3m to the redevelopment of the Beenleigh town centre.
‘As a local who grew up in the electorate of Forde, I know the importance of this project and what it means for our local community and local businesses,’ Mr van Manen said.
‘Should the Coalition be fortunate enough to win the September election we will provide $3m for the much needed redevelopment of the Beenleigh town centre.’
Bert has been a long-time advocate of the redevelopment of the town centre and pointed to the economic benefits that would flow from the project.
‘I have been relentlessly campaigning for the redevelopment of the Beenleigh town centre because I want to create jobs for our community and grow our local economy,’ Mr van Manen said.
‘This outstanding local project will create 225 new permanent jobs and 47 full time construction jobs and provide an economic boost of $23m to the region.’
‘I’m interested in providing real change in Forde. I want to create jobs and grow our local economy. The only thing I won’t do is move, and win or lose come September I’m staying right here, because this is my home.’
Mr van Manen said he had been talking with the local business community over the past three years and know they are right behind the project, but questioned why Labor had rejected it.
‘No one believes that Labor is really behind the project. After all, Labor has rejected the redevelopment of the Beenleigh town centre on two occasions as part of separate Regional Development Fund rounds,’ Mr van Manen said.
‘Labor is out of touch and is interested only in fake change and supporting old mates, even at the expense of its candidate who was shamefully dumped at the 11th hour.’
